Lyon Chief Information Officer Matt Zaist immediately sought out a solution not only to manage large amounts of content, but also to create a unified corporate look between all divisions while maintaining a sense of community branding - through a single Web domain.
Working with an outside technology consulting firm, Zaist
developed a first-of-its-kind database-driven tool that allows Lyon personnel to modify all aspects of the site via a centralized Web interface. The database allows Lyon
staff to add new regions, communities, or models, and to update existing model information, including description, pricing, renderings, floor plans (including image map to appropriate interior photos), driving directions, community status, and more.
The new site launched in February 2001, and has been well received by both consumers and Lyon personnel. While the consolidation of multiple sites into a single Web address presented several search engine positioning challenges, the site has seen traffic increase steadily to a current level of 1,100+ visitors per day.The site has also brought in nearly 400 qualified leads since its launch (leads are pulled into Lyon's
existing offline lead follow-up system). The company is currently developing a permission-based email program, set to launch later in the year.
