Dr. Michael Courtney and the administrative and teaching staff were delighted to welcome Democratic State Assemblyman Matt Titone to our school for a hands-on visit on April 4.
Assemblyman Titone is an attorney, a lifelong Staten Islander and the son of the highly respected New York State Court of Appeals Judge, the late Vito Titone.
represents the 61st Assembly District on Staten Island's North Shore.
Assemblyman Titone was the first elected representative to pay a formal visit to our school.
not only saw a lot; he
did a lot - a lot of it with our students, who clearly enjoyed the time they spent with him.
definitely got their votes.
During his hour-long visit and tour, Assemblyman Titone watched as kindergarten students rehearsed a dramatic presentation based on Eric Carle stories.
also delivered a mini-civics lesson on government, law, and the ways legislators like Titone are able to help the people and communities they represent. (As an example, he
recent victory in passing legislation allowing older students on school buses.)
But Assemblyman Titone scored his biggest success when he read the Dr. Seuss classic, "Green Eggs and Ham" to two SICCS classes.
Our students enjoyed the assemblyman's lively reading style and were an attentive, respectful audience.
They jumped in on cue, though, during the dialogue and responded with smiles when Assemblyman Titone revealed that his favorite egg color isn't green; it's purple!
At the end of the tour, Titone
was impressed by the hard work that transformed SICCS
from dream to reality.
