CSO - Matthew Hulteen - Saxophone Soloist A NEW ERA OF EXCELLENCE Spring Concert - April 12,, 2008 2008 Young Artists Auditions Winner Matthew Hulteen Saxophone Soloist Matthew Hulteen Matthew Hulteen: Saxophone Matthew Hulteen is the CSO's Young Artist Audition winner for 2008. Matthew is a junior at Sterling High School and has studied saxophone with Brandi Spreeman since third grade. As his mother was completing a master's degree in music, three-year-old Matthew had a great time with music flash cards and playing the piano. Matthew has earned recognition in both piano and saxophone, including first division ratings at school music contests and prominent chairs in Illinois Music Educators Association district bands through grade school and high school. He is also a high school honor student at Sterling High School, an achievement he attributes to his music training. His future plans include college, perhaps with a major in some sort of engineering, but music will continue to be an important aspect of his life.

Matthew Hulteen - Saxophone SoloistMatthew Hulteen, a junior at Sterling High School was chosen from the Symphony's annual Young Artist Auditions, open to high school musicians from throughout the Symphony's service area. Matthew is the son of Ron and Rhonda Hulteen, and will perform the first movement of the Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra by American composer Paul Creston.As his mother was completing a masters degree in music, 3-year-old Matthew had a great time with music flashcards and playing the piano.Now he participates in the school music program in Sterling and has won recognition in both piano and saxophone.He is also a high honor student at Sterling High School, an achievement he attributes to his music training.
