felt a call to serve the people of God , and those yet to be reached for Christ , from a young age.His parents, Paul and Melody, were both active in the Christian ministry, serving as a college chaplain and a church pianist, respectively; and both instilled in Rev. Matthew J. Gibson an appreciation for the things of God. Ordained as an elder in the Church of God in Christ's First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Southern California, Rev. Matthew J. Gibson moved to Boston in 1992, where he worked with youth and adults as an expeditionary learning teacher with Outward Bound.Out of a desire to work with urban youth and families in a faith-based setting, he joined the staff of the Ella J. Baker House in 1994.
Over the next eleven years he
started and directed programs for high risk youth, and served as an assistant pastor at the Azusa Christian Community, working under Rev. Eugene F. Rivers, 3d.
Rev. Matthew J. Gibson's gifts are in the area of writing, teaching, preaching, public speaking, program design, and group facilitation.He
is a freelance writer who has taught creative writing to middle school students in after-school settings, as well as summer intensives held at Tufts University
is well traveled, and most recently went to Cairo to study the role of Islam and Christianity in Egyptian society.Rev. Matthew J. Gibson is also a Field Education Supervisor for Harvard Divinity School.Rev. Matthew J. Gibson
considers himself blessed to have lived and served in Roxbury and Dorchester's neighborhoods.One of his
fondest memories is of the time he
asked a young man for directions to a park and the young man exclaimed "Why are you asking me?You've been living here your whole life!"Through his work with the Boston TenPoint Coalition, as aided by the Holy Spirit, Rev. Matthew J. Gibson hopes to help ministers and lay leaders transform our promising yet often neglected community
