In 1978 their son, Matthew, was born with their daughter, Angela, being born in 1980.
Matthew and his wife, Gina, are equally involved in the community. Matthew is the middle school guidance counselor at GMHS and Gina is a school board member who has been recognized by the superintendents of New Hampshire schools as the 2014 volunteer of the year, for going above and beyond. With three sons, Bailey, Brendan and Jack, both Matt and Gina can be found coaching baseball, basketball, or soccer or on the side lines cheering on Brendan and Jack as they master their hockey skills. Matt is continually raising funds for the Mind Flight Program, getting his students involved in community service or placing them in the workplace through the School to Career Program. Now, with Michael and Sylvia retiring from the restaurant business after more than 38 years, Matt and Gina will be opening their own Italian Market, in July, continuing the tradition, but bringing in new flavors of Italy. Seventh and eighth graders reported first thing to the cafeteria, where they met with Guidance Counselor Matthew Saladino, who read a prepared statement to them and then worked with them on a memory activity.
Saladino said students made posters, wrote poems, songs, whatever helped them process their grief. Those posters were hung up and will be given to her family "When they first came in the cafeteria, the mood was very somber," Saladino said. "She really loved her job," Saladino said. "Loved being with the kids."
