MATT POPE, Director, Corporate Partnerships
Matt Pope joins Premier Partnerships following stints at the Los Angeles Lakers, Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Basketball Association (NBA).
As Director of Corporate Partnerships
is responsible for selling sponsorships and developing new business opportunities for major sports and entertainment properties.
With an extensive background in corporate partnerships, community relations and special events at both the professional sports team and league levels, Pope
brings a broad range of sponsorship expertise to Premier.
Prior to Premier, Pope served as a Manager of Corporate Partnerships for the Los Angeles Lakers from 2007 to 2011.
After inheriting long-time existing Lakers Partners such as American Express, Anheuser-Busch, Gatorade and Toyota
was instrumental in developing renewal proposals and securing multi-year extensions.
In addition to renewals, Pope
acquired a number of new high profile Lakers Partners, including 1800 Tequila
, Delta Air Lines
and OneWest Bank
focused on creating customized marketing campaigns specifically designed to differentiate Partners from their competition.
fostered strong client relationships by consistently being able to show maximum return on investment through increased brand awareness, affinity and loyalty in the marketplace.
In four years with the Lakers, Pope
experienced a 22% growth in sponsorship sales and managed accounts that represented nearly two-thirds of the total department revenue.
Prior to the Lakers, Pope was Senior Coordinator of Community Relations for the MLB, where he organized and executed all aspects of MLB's three signature youth baseball programs: Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI), Rookie League and Pepsi Pitch, Hit & Run League.
By securing KPMG and Pepsi
as Title Sponsors, MLB
was able to cover all annual expenses for each program.
Pope's success with the program's sponsors was a key factor in the expansion of these leagues in over 200 youth clubs worldwide.
Starting his professional sports career as an Events and Attractions Coordinator for the NBA in 2003, Pope was the primary on-site contact for the NBA, its Corporate Partners, clients, media and local staff on two premier mobile marketing tours, "NBA Jam Van" and "NBA Nation," as well as select NBA Finals, All-Star Jam Session and NBA Cares events.
Pope received an athletic scholarship to Hawaii Pacific University and earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Corporate Communications with a concentration in Business.
Currently residing in Redondo Beach with his
wife, Jennifer, he
enjoys being outdoors and running with his
two best friends, Larry and Lina (his dogs).
