Granting the 90-day extension is "standard" with county building permits, according to Matt Osterhoudt, project scientist, Sarasota County Resource Protection-Natural Resources.
"The idea is to have them submit a progress assessment to this office to determine whether or not sufficient work has been completed," Osterhoudt
said."If they continue to demonstrate justification an extension is warranted, these 90-day extensions can continue, but they have to justify an extension is warranted."
Konecnik has been given until Oct. 28 to show construction work to fill in the two bay areas, building of a sea wall and installation of the floating dock is moving forward. The owner of Fisherman's Wharf
, located on the northwestern side of Hatchett Creek Bridge, had asked for an eight-month extension, but that was denied.Osterhoudt
explained all of the county's building permits have the 90-day provision, with the option for additional extensions as long as the owner proves work is progressing.
"It's trying to be reasonable as a government agency that does permit work," Osterhoudt
As of Thursday, no application for the extra 286 feet has been turned in to Osterhoudt's
"The key component (for resubmission) is what have they done differently since the last time they came before us," Osterhoudt
