Meanwhile, Matthew Giger, vice president of sales and business development for iConnect, says the NTT Docomo acquisition and merger are "really a compliment to our growing industry here.
adds, "The heavyweights of the Asian telecommunications Industry are now really looking at this market - it's not because we are shrinking - it's the next 10 to 20 years of growth potential and the obvious geographic advantages."
With regard to the rumors of PTI
buying out IT&E
says the purchase would be a strategic plus for PTI
If the rumors are true, the two companies together will be much more valuable than both separately," Giger
adds that the effects on the telecommunications market on Guam for the business consumer will be seen in many different forms.
"The first interface or immediate effect will be in consumer advertising, marketing and sales.
Generally speaking, before an acquisition or merger, one company may have been an aggressive business marketer and totally aware of what separates them from the competition.
Then after the merger and acquisition, they are not separated any more but are under the same roof with one softer message trying to accommodate many services," Giger
says that consumers will be "driven to the new companies 'name brand' and not the individual network's strengths, broadband advantages, long-distance rates, and other services."
adds if the telecommunications market keeps up with the way it is going now, the effects on the industry will be obvious in a few years.
"We think that [mergers] will make iConnect
a better company and more knowledgeable at what we do as a core - keeping us on our toes.
We will really have to get more creative over the next few years to keep up with the powerhouses coming into the market.
The industry will see these new companies taking advantage of the benefits of economies of scale.
The companies that have just completed a merger and acquisition will be reducing duplicate departments and operations, lowering the overall cost while adding additional revenue streams and increasing profits," Giger
says the company's niche in the market is its Push-2-Talk services.
"We have the largest group of Push-2-Talk users in the region," Giger
"We are putting up new transmitter sites up all the time and working at getting better every day.
If you are an iConnect
customer or you have friends that are iConnect customers you will understand how convenient our service really is and where we sit in the mix."
In addition to its Push-2-Talk services, Giger
"has the most flexible rate plans or rate structure offered."
