...Mrs. Mary Jane Spalding, 65, of 10699 Salem Ave., Thurmont, died Saturday, Jan. 26, at her home. She
was the wife of Jimmy A. Thibodeaux, her
husband of 20 years.
Born May 6, 1936, in Deerfield, she
was a daughter of Mary Jane Buhrman Bittner of Sabillasville, and the late Lester G. Bittner. Mrs. Spalding was the first female in Maryland to graduate with an agriculture degree.She was a graduate of Thurmont High School. She was a former secretary at Catoctin High School and Sabillasville Elementary School.She
had been employed at Eastern Frozen Semen Co.Later she was personnel manager with Tamko Corp. and then manager at The Quality Inn of Frederick.She served as the general manager of Days Inn in Frederick for 20 years. She was a member of the Days Inn "450 Club," and received many awards for outstanding quality.She served as president of the Maryland Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Association.
Surviving in addition to her
husband and mother are one daughter, Shelba Jane Bollinger and husband David of Sabillasville; two sons, Douglas G. Miller and wife Debbie, and Randall A. Miller and wife Diane, all of Sabillasville; three grandchildren, Amber L. Miller, Cayla J. Bollinger and Jessie C. Bollinger; three stepdaughters, Lisa Ford and Lori Wiltz and husband Steve, all of Port Orchard, Wash., and Angela Auterson and husband Scott of Chesapeake, Va.; six stepgrandchildren, Ashley Wiltz, Joseph Wiltz, Zoe Wiltz, Miranda Ford, Andrew Ford and Nicole Auterson; a brother-in-law, Murphy Thibodeaux of Lake Charles, La.; and a sister-in-law, Judy Ray of Lake Charles.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont
.The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home.
