Cades Cove Preservation Association member Mary Gregory talks about how her ancestry fought on both sides during the Civil War to Carpenters Middle School students.

President Ruth Davis, Treasurer Mary Gregory and member Dorothy Sutton spoke to students about three areas of history.
Gregory talked about the Civil War. Nearly 2,230 men between the ages of 18 and 100 lived in Blount County during the Civil War, she said. About 1,100 men served in either the Confederate or Union armies, Gregory said.

Mary Gregory, chairwoman of the MOMS Committee and founding member of CCPA, sent the following list of special events:

* Jan. 8: "Pass the Cornbread" A look at the impact of corn on the Cades Cove and Blount County communities.CCPA video, cornshuck dolls, artifact displays.Lunch of pinto beans and cornbread by the Alnwick Community Center.
* Jan. 15 : "Nectar of Nature -- Honey" Program at 11 a.m. by the Blount County Beekeepers Association.
Gregory said CCPA was blessed to have the assistance of numerous individuals and organizations in every facet of bringing "Key Ingredients" to Blount County.
