Mary Gregory Blount Historical Museum
Mary Gregory, a member of ..., 9 July 2009 [cached]
Mary Gregory, a member of the board of the Blount County Historical Museum, has been attending sessions at Rocky Branch since 1997, a year after the community center was founded. She admits to being "an old rock 'n' roller" but said the country, gospel and bluegrass music that echoes down the hallways at this former school, grabbed her just like it has countless others. She said on any given night, there are visitors from England or Germany, New York and in between. There are people who travel here on vacation each year to be a part of this homegrown phenomenon.
The right stuff
On a recent Friday night, Charlie Acuff was among the crowd, Gregory and Wilburn pointed out.
"You never know who you will meet," Gregory said.
The pairing up of Tate and Wilburn with a fundraiser for the Blount County Historical Museum, accomplishes two goals, she said. These two young men get the chance to showcase their talent and it helps raise awareness for the museum and its need for funding. The museum is a non-profit organization whose admission is free. The board looks for creative ways to bring in the money to keep its doors open, Gregory said.
