...During the commencement ceremony held on Saturday May 24, Marvin Sellberg, of McPherson, will be honored as this year's inductee into the esteemed Academe of Achievers.
Established in 1971, the Academe of Achievers is the highest honor given by Central Christian College
The Academe honors persons who demonstrate one or more of the ideals of Central Christian College
, who have achieved prominence in their profession, who have gained recognition in the "larger" society, and whose lives portray service.Marvin Sellberg grew up in McPherson and earned his associates degree at Central College.He later graduated from the University of Chicago with a masters degree in business administration and then began teaching college.During his twelve years at Central, Sellberg was a coach, business manager, and business professor.He then taught at McPherson College, Tabor College, and for the Associated Colleges of Central Kansas.In 1974, he was a non-government advisor to the U.S. Delegation at the World Food Conference in Rome.Sellberg is an active farmer and, for the past forty years, has owned and operated a farm northwest of McPherson.He is a member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church.Sellberg
has three children: Marsha Meyer of Phoenix, Arizona, a retired president and CEO of Pets Mart International; Marlene Waltz of Kansas City, Missouri, a vice president of U.S. Sprint; and a son, Dr. Martin Sellberg, who practices medicine and resides in Wichita.
All family, friends, and colleagues of Marvin Sellberg
are invited to celebrate with him at a reception that will be held following commencement, at approximately 4:30 p.m., in the church parlor.
