Martin Woodcock
Artist and illustrator of wildlife and birds
Martin Woodcock has been a bird and wildlife painter since 1974, when he turned a hobby - albeit a passionate one - into a profession. His first book - A Field Guide tothe Birds of South-east Asia, was published by Collins in 1975, and since then he has illustrated many other ornithological guidebooks and family monographs. He has written two books, and painted virtually all the colour plates for the seven-volume definitive work The Birds of Africa. His paintings are in many collections in the U.K. and abroad, and he has been a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists since 1986. Goldfinch vignette
Martin Woodcock Since finishing the Birds of Africa illustrations he has been painting a variety of pictures, ranging from pure landscapes to detailed bird portraits in oil on board. The sketchbooks from field trips around his home in north Norfolk - and also much further afield - provide the material and inspiration for these paintings. He has an `open studio` exhibition every year at home, and shows work at the BIRD scapes Gallery in Glandford, and at the annual SWLA exhibition in London.
