Subsequently, in mentioning the 2002-2003 Kentucky Center for the Arts calendar, the author ignored the Dec. 6, 2002 Medeski, Martin and Wood concert planned as part of the Lonesome Pine Series.Similarly, in touching on the jazz programming on public radio station WFPK-FM, the author overlooked the excellent "Live Lunch" series. In addition to the pop, folk and blues artists, "Live Lunch" performances have featured local jazz ranging from the straight-ahead post-bop of the Dick Sisto/Harry Pickens Quartet and the Steve Crews Trio (plus guest horns), to the more progressive sounds of the Java Men, and the big band roar of the Ovation Orchestra."Live Lunch" even featured the next generation of jazz with the Brown School Jazz Band.As to the "dormant" LJS, in the past year the society has helped underwrite the University of Louisville Jazz Week, the Bellarmine Jazz Guitar Workshop and the Highlands-Douglass Neighborhood's Big Rock Jazz Concert (featuring internationally known saxophonist James Moody on Oct. 13, following a performance last year by the renowned saxophonist Dennis Deblasio). --Lillian Gascoyne, LJS president; Martin Z. Kasdan Jr., LJS board member
