Marsha McGee, a professor of sociology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, said what makes men less likely to see a doctor might be the same thing that makes them less likely to ask for directions.

Guys are taught that you have to handle your own problems, she said.Men are much less inclined than women to ask for help..
The study reported that when sick or in pain, one of four men wait as long as possible before seeking care.Men who know that there is something wrong with them but do not see a doctor may be in denial, or simply afraid, McGee said.
She cautioned that procrastination in seeking health care can be dangerous or even deadly.
What happens when men delay seeking treatment is that they end up much sicker, McGee said. When they do go to the doctor, they may end up with health complications that could have been prevented..
