"We always have a good response from the students," WTHS Math Teacher Marsha Brumberg said.

Math teacher Marsha Brumberg and language arts teacher Jerry Cullen have been teaming up for about 10 years to give a humorous presentation on "HSPA Prep Day."
"Apparently it has an impact, because attendance is much better during testing days," Brumberg said. Jerry has the humor, but language arts lends itself more to that," Brumberg said. My favorite one is, "I don't care if you fail -- it's not me,' " Brumberg said. The pair update their routine annually. Time is now spent on a major taboo -- cell phones. "If you use a cell phone during the test, you're done. We also tell students not to put their heads down to rest between test sections, because they may never get back up," Brumberg said. (4 of 4) Like most districts, Washington Township does more serious things to prepare, too. Practice tests are given in math and language arts classes all during the week before the HSPA. Brumberg teaches the math portion of an after-school program for extra help given from December up until the HSPA dates. I get the entire junior class, and I can get across to them how important this is," Washington Township's Brumberg said.
