(Detroit, Mich., June 15, 2005) The national organization of the Black Data ProcessingAssociates (BDPA) announced that Ms. Marlin Wilson, Deputy Chief Information Officer forthe City of Detroit, has been named as Honorary Co-Chairperson for BDPA's annual conferenceto be held in Detroit, Mich., August 17-20, 2005 at the Detroit Renaissance Center.
"I am excited and honored to be a part of the BDPA conference that is coming to Detroit inAugust," said Ms. Wilson."BDPA is the premier organization for Black technologyprofessionals, and having the annual conference in Detroit is a benefit to the city and the largenumber of Black technology professionals we have here."
As Deputy CIO for the City of Detroit, Ms. Wilson is responsible for providing the vision,leadership and strategic planning in the area of Information Technology for the city.
Ms. Wilson successfully implemented Detroit's first e-government initiative allowing Detroit's900,000 citizens the opportunity to engage city government using the internet.She was alsoresponsible for the IT Governance initiative which was instrumental in the building of a securewireless network allowing internet access at several downtown locations, resulted in cost savingsfor the City of Detroit.
