Markku Hietaharju gave his debut organ recital in Helsinki Cathedral in 1987, having graduated from the Sibelius Academy the previous year.He has also attended numerous masterclasses in Finland and abroad and spent 1988-1990 in Lübeck, passing the Konzertexamen there as a student of Martin Haselböck.Winner of prizes in international competitions, he has made frequent appearances in Finland, Scandinavia, Central Europe, the Baltic states and Russia and performed at the Lahti, Tallinn, Riga and Vienna Music Festivals and in Gothenburg.His discography includes the complete A.G. Ritter sonatas recorded in Riga Cathedral.Markku Hietaharju is organist of Meilahti Parish in Helsinki.
