Ecotrust Canada Toggle navigation Mark Valentine Director Mark Valentine has over twenty years of experience advising nonprofit and philanthropic institutions in how best to leverage their human and financial capital in pursuit of powerful impact. In 2003 he founded ReFrame It Consulting, which works with foundations and individual donors on grantmaking program design, implementation, and evaluation. In parallel, ReFrame It offers nonprofit organizations a range of services that include strategic planning, organizational development, and executive coaching. Mr. Valentine and his colleagues have advised groups working across a diverse array of issues, including: smart growth and sustainable land use, environmental health, energy and climate, marine and coastal conservation, and conservation finance. Prior to founding ReFrame It, Mr. Valentine was a Program Director with the Packard Foundation where he helped establish the US's largest conservation grantmaking program with initiatives across the western United States, Mexico, China, and the Western Pacific. In addition, he created an innovative interdisciplinary grantmaking initiative that highlighted the opportunities for strategic synergy between reproductive health, environment, and community development initiatives in select geographies within the Foundation's global portfolio. Mr. Valentine currently serves as co-chair of Smart Growth California, a network of funders committed to promoting sustainable land use policy in California. In addition, Mr. Valentine serves on the Boards of the Center for the New American Dream and Resource Media. He also serves on the Curriculum Advisory Committee for the Dalai Lama Fellows program.
Mark Valentine has over 20 years of experience helping nonprofit and philanthropic institutions leverage their human and financial assets in order to achieve social change outcomes. Since 2003, he has operated ReFrame It Consulting, which provides program design and evaluation as well as organizational development services to organizations working across a diverse array of issues, including smart growth and sustainable land use, environmental health, energy and climate, marine and coastal conservation, social entrepreneurship, regional economic development, and microfinance. Mark previously was a Program Director with the Packard Foundation where he helped establish a conservation grantmaking program. Mark is chair of the Board of Directors of Resource Media and also serves on the Advisory Board for the San Francisco Green Film Festival. He received his B.A. in English and History from Union College.

He then went on to create an innovative interdisciplinary program that was focused on promoting strategic synergy across the foundation's reproductive health, conservation, and community development programs. Mark left the foundation in 2003 to found ReFrame It Consulting, which provides program design and assessment as well as organizational development services to organizations working across a diverse array of issues including smart growth and sustainable land use, marine and coastal conservation, social entrepreneurship, regional economic development, and international conflict prevention and resolution. Mark has a B.A. from Union College in New York.
