On Monday, Judge Michael Reed unsealed grand jury indictments for Rovenstine, along with inmate Kevin Bronson and long-time Grace College Professor Dr. Mark Soto.
In exchange, Bronson was allegedly allowed to have unrecorded phone conversations and visits, some of which with Soto. WSBT asked Soto's attorney if Bronson manipulated Soto. "Dr. Soto first met Mr. Bronson at a church where Dr. Soto was preaching in about 1998," said Soto's attorney David Kolbe. "Dr. Soto first met Mr. Bronson at a church where Dr. Soto was preaching in about 1998," said Soto's attorney David Kolbe. Soto was also indicted on one of those intimidation counts.
Also charged is Mark Soto, a professor at Grace College in Winona Lake, who faces three felony charges of corrupt business influence and three felony charges of intimidation.
The Warsaw Times-Union reported Soto served as a spiritual mentor and counselor to Bronson. Soto and Bronson are accused of intimidating multiple men, including threats to beat or kill the victims and their families. Marshall County Prosecutor E. Nelson Chipman Jr., who has been appointed as special prosecutor in the case, said at a news conference Monday that Soto has been arrested and that Bronson remains in custody after being arrested 14 months ago for possession of cocaine with intent to deal and criminal gang activity. Bronson and Soto are also accused of threatening to beat or kill another man and his family unless the man provided legal services without payment to help them secure a movie or book contract, the indictment states.
The sheriff allegedly granted special privileges to convict Kevin Bronson and Mark Soto
That investigation, according to charging information filed Monday in Kosciusko Circuit Court, alleges that Rovenstine accepted some $40,000 in exchange for granting special privileges to an inmate at Kosciusko County Jail - Kevin Bronson - and a visitor to the jail - Mark Soto. Rovenstine also allegedly threatened a law enforcement officer for investigating "the conduct of Kevin Bronson while Kevin Bronson was incarcerated at the Kosciusko County Jail," and permitted unrecorded calls and visits between Soto and Bronson "with the intent to hinder the punishment of Kevin Bronson," according to the charging information. Bronson and Soto have also been indicted. Soto, a professor of theological studies at Grace College, faces three charges each of corrupt business influence and intimidation. He was booked into the Marshall County Jail. That charging information alleges Bronson and Soto threatened numerous people for cash or support of a movie-making front, Young Dragon Enterprises. I've seen a soul set free," interrupts Mark Soto, singing a few phrases of an old gospel song in full voice, making Decker laugh at a common memory.
