Kapalua's Mark ..., 6 Jan 2012 [cached]
Kapalua's Mark Rolfing, a golf analyst and Hawaii's most prominent voice in the game, calls it a "disturbing trend. "I don't see any scenario, if that (the scheduling) continues, where the Europeans are coming here in January ever. Maybe one or two but not in general," said Rolfing, who compares the relentless worldwide schedule to tennis 20 years ago.
To help this tournament -- and next week's Sony -- get through the scheduling storm, Rolfing believes the TOC's eligibility list has to be expanded. He favors including the top 50 -- players who are eligible for every tournament but this one. If the tour moves to a fall start, which is being discussed, he wants this event to become the sport's "all-star game," with fan voting involved.
"The first players in the all-star game are guys who win tournaments," Rolfing said.
