City Manager Mark Latham said IDOT was slated to contribute $1 million in grants for improvements at the intersection of Troxler Avenue and U.S. Highway 40.

Latham said the city is still discussing what it might do with the money it will save.
As the final leg of the peripheral route project, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Iberg extension will be held at the corner of Michael Road and Iberg Road on Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. Mayor Joe Michaelis said he’s excited to be nearing the end of the project, one of the biggest undertaken by the city during his time as mayor.
“When I ran for the position of mayor eight years ago, the completion of the peripheral route was one of my initiatives that I ran on,” Michaelis said. “I really felt, and still do, that it’s going to be a very beneficial project for the city of Highland.
