Dr. Mark A. Kossick received in 2003 his Doctor of Nursing Science degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center - Memphis, College of Nursing. He completed his clinical residency in the electrophysiology laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). During his residency he developed a new modified chest lead (MAC1L). Dr. Kossick finished his anesthesia education in 1984 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pennsylvania/Edinboro University, Edinboro, Pennsylvania. Over the past 20 years he has been on faculty at several universities (University of Kansas, UAB, University of Maryland, Union University).
He is currently on faculty as a full professor at Western Carolina University, in Candler, North Carolina. Over the past two decades he has lectured extensively across the country on ECG interpretation and the management of ischemia and arrhythmias. His lectures have addressed audiences at state and national meetings as well as graduate students and faculty as a visiting professor at other universities across the United States. Internationally he has lectured in London, United Kingdom, as well as Vienna, Austria. Dr. Kossick has also written a textbook and handbook on electrocardiography, is an author of two chapters in the textbook, Nurse Anesthesia (Inhalation Anesthetics and Clinical Monitoring I: Cardiovascular System), and authored the antiarrhythmic chapter in the recently published textbook, Pharmacology for Nurse Anesthesiology. He is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA), and the International Society for Computerized ElectroCardiography. In 2006, Dr. Kossick was inducted into Ashtabula Harbor High School's Hall of Fame as an alumni recipient of the "Career Achievement Award," Ashtabula, Ohio.

Dr. Mark A. Kossick, professor of nursing, presented a comprehensive seven hour EKG Seminar on Dec. 12 and four hours of lecture sponsored by A. Webb Roberts Center for Continuing Medical Education of Baylor Health Care System, Dallas, and Northwest Anesthesia Seminars on Dec. 13-14. His topics included "Cardinal Skills for Accurate Interpretation of Myocardial Ischemia," "ST Segment Deviation Algorithm: A Comprehensive Approach to Avoid Errors in Anesthetic Management," "ECG Lead Selection- Patient Safety and Medical-Legal Concerns" and "New Recommendations for Treatment of Arrhythmias.

Norfolk, Va. (June 5, 2009) - Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, a division of Bon Secours Hampton Roads, is pleased to announce that Mark A. Kossick, DNSc, CRNA, APN, has been named Director of Anesthesia Services.
Kossick holds a Master of Science in nurse anesthesia from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. and a Doctor of Nursing Science from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tenn. He is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) and the International Society for Computerized Electrocardiography.
Prior to joining Bon Secours, Kossick provided clinical anesthesia services at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tenn. and practiced at numerous major medical centers including the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio, the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kans. and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Ala. In addition, he served as professor and senior fellow at Union University School of Nursing, in Jackson, Tenn.
Recognized as an expert in electrocardiography, Kossick has written and published several works for the medical community, been an invited lecturer at international and national meetings, and has won numerous honors throughout his career. He has also written grants, done research and developed a new modified chest lead during his doctoral residency in the electrophysiology laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
He is author of two chapters, Inhalation Anesthesia and Monitoring- Cardiovascular System, in a major textbook Nurse Anesthesia. Kossick is also in the process of writing an antiarrhythmic chapter in a soon to be published pharmacology textbook. He is currently under contract to write an anesthesia textbook entitled Physiology and Anesthesia. As developer of a new modified chest lead, Kossick's research was recently presented at an international electrocardiography meeting.
