Mark has more than 40 years international business experience.
After graduating from Oxford University, he worked for twenty years in export marketing and sales for two British multinationals, serving in the United Kingdom, India, Singapore and Belgium. In 1979 he joined a major German group and came to Canada as their first locally based CEO. Five years later he moved to Electrovert Limited in Montreal (world leader in the manufacturing of equipment for the circuit board assembly industry) as President and CEO. In 1985 Electrovert won a Canadian Export Award, and Mark Drake was subsequently invited to join the Board of the Canadian Exporters' Association (CEA). In 1993 he joined the CEA to work full-time as its new President. Under his leadership, membership grew by almost 45% in the two years prior to his proposal that it merge with the Canadian Manufacturers Association (CMA). The merger resulted in the creation of the Alliance of Manufacturers and Exporters (The Alliance) in May 1996, which has since changed its name to Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME). He then served for two years as its Senior Vice President based in Ottawa, working primarily on international trade related issues, before retiring to work with his consulting company Corsley Inc., (founded in 1993) specialising international trade facilitation, and business ethics. He is a C.I.T.P. (certified international trade professional). Mr. Drake, through Corsley Inc., is an active member of the CME. He is also a member of the Services SAGIT (Sectoral Advisory Group on International Trade reporting to the Minister), is director and past chair of the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT), a member of Transparency International Canada and of Global Links Networks and The Chelsea Group. Mr. Drake is married, with two grown children, and lives in Hudson, Qubec, where he is an active volunteer in several community organisations. He can be reached at corsley@sympatico.ca Mark Drake President Corsley Inc.
