Mario Salvador's wife wanted to do something special for this renowned organist on the occasion of his 80th birthday.She decided to surprise her husband with a new three-manual Allen organ in the drawing room of their Missouri home. Salvador is a noted concert organist and distinguished organist emeritus of the St. Louis Cathedral.After graduating from Loyola University in Chicago, Salvador became organist and choir director at the St. Louis Cathedral in 1940.He received his Master of Music degree in both Composition and Organ from the American Conservatory of Music.Prior to joining the St. Louis Cathedral, Salvador was a Vatican organist and studied at the Pontifical School of Sacred Music in Rome. Concert tours have taken Salvador throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America and Europe.The octogenarian still maintains a busy concert schedule, and practices diligently on his Allen that replaced a small pipe organ. Salvador, noting that the new Allen provides more versatility than his previous instrument, proclaims, "I love it.It's beautiful.

The Blessing of the organ was given by Most Rev. Joseph E. Ritter and the dedication recital was played by Cathedral Organist, Dr. Mario Salvador.
Cathedral Organist, Dr. Mario Salvador, was the recitalist and the St. Louis Cathedral Choir sang. The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis has had four Directors of Music and Organists in its history: Mr. William Diebels, 1915-1939; Dr. Mario Salvador, AAGO, 1940-1992; Dr. John Romeri, AAGO, ChM, 1992-2010; Dr. Horst Buchholz, 2011-Present.
