Maria Bevacqua, USAMaria Bevacqua is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Women's Studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato, U.S.A.She received a Ph.D. in women's studies from Emory University in 1997.Dr. Bevacqua
has published in the areas of violence against women, social movements, and public policy.Her
book "Rape on the Public Agenda: Feminism and the Politics of Sexual
Assault" (Northeastern University Press, 2000) is a study of the U.S. anti-rape movement and the impact of feminist redefinitions of sexual assault from the late 1960s to the turn of the century.She
has also published articles on feminist coalitions and lesbian and gay marriage.She
gives frequent invited lectures and keynote addresses on topics such as rape prevention and self-defense and empowerment.Her
activist work includes rape crisis advocacy, lesbian and gay rights, reproductive rights, and domestic violence education.
