Marge Wiggins serves as Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer for Maine Medical Center, the state's leading academic and research-based tertiary and quaternary care center; Northern New England's premiere hospital; and verified Level 1 trauma center.
In her role as Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Wiggins is responsible for a vast array of tasks - from operations evaluations and strategy, to care delivery, mentoring, benchmarking, management, and enhancing patient care quality.
oversees the integration, coordination and direction of nursing and patient care within the overall operations of the medical center and promotes a culture of service excellence.
Wiggins helps to ensure the delivery of safe patient and family centered care consistent with the mission of Maine Medical Center
and in accordance with government regulations, licensing and accreditation requirements.
She is also a key member of the senior management team - serving on the President's Council - and participates in all strategic and operational decisions and policy as a senior corporate officer of Maine Medical Center.
Wiggins also serves as the Chief Nursing Officer and Chair of the Nursing Council at MaineHealth.
A seasoned nurse executive, Wiggins experience includes nursing leadership roles in medical/surgical units of mid-sized hospitals to senior leadership positions in large hospitals and academic medical centers.
has published numerous articles on nursing excellence and has consulted across the country and in England on patient care delivery models.
She also serves as an Adjunct Faculty of Nursing at the University of Southern Maine.
Wiggins received her Diploma in Nursing from Quincy City Hospital, Quincy Massachusetts and her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Salem State College in Salem, Massachusetts.
She earned a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (c) from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.
Wiggins is a leader and/or member of several regional and national nursing specialty organizations including the Clinical Nurse Leader Steering Committee of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the American Organization of Nurse Executives.
