Guest Speaker: Margaret Hoybach
Margaret Hoybach of Charleston was our speaker this month. Extensive painting trips to Europe, the Orient and throughout the United States have given her a rich inspiration for her watercolors. She received a degree from the University of Maryland School of Fine Arts and advanced studies at the University of California at Davis. She conducts art workshops and seminars around the US and Europe, lectures to art guilds, professional organizations and is a guest lecturer at colleges, universities and museums. She has an educational television series which is produced and shown in the Washington, DC area.
"Colors of France: A Painting Pilgrimage" was first published in 2002. She takes groups to Provence to "journal" every year. Margaret is a five time Merit Award winner in the SC Watermedia Society Annual Exhibition. She was selected in 1993 as the Commemorative Artist for the Sesquicentennial Celebration of the Citadel in Charleston. She has had numerous one man exhibitions throughout the US, and exhibited in Europe.
During 30 years of worldwide art related travel, Margaret has developed rapid sketching techniques for capturing the "inspiration of the moment" and then interpreting it later in the studio in either watercolor or oil. During the last fifteen years she has "journaled" in 19 countries over four continents while traveling over 100,000 miles. She gave a lecture/demonstration of the journaling process.

Theodore Van Gogh bear (Teddy) is three feet tall, brown, fuzzy, loveable and likes hugs...Teddy lives with artist Margaret Hoybach near Charleston, S.C. Teddy was a normal stuffed animal until Margaret started dressing him. Then he took on a life of his own. Margaret is his secretary, chauffer and caretaker. She carries him on her back in a custom backpack covered with patches and pins of the places he has visited.
Teddy's main job is being the mascot for Happy Days and Special Times, an organization in South Carolina for children with cancer. He makes hospital visits and attends the annual camp held for one week during the summer. He is a full participant in camp activities and rides in boats, climbs the "wall", jumps the "blob" and receives at least a thousand hugs during the week. One year he jumped with the skydiving team, an annual event. Margaret, his caretaker, has been the Art Director of Happy Days for the last 15 years.
