On Palm Sunday, Kathy Thornton, member of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, announced Bishop Peter Weaver's intention to appoint Rev. Margaret Dewyer Goad as a pastor at South UMC.
The SPRC had met with Rev. Goad
and D. S. Heidi Chamberland on the Thursday before Palm Sunday and has enthusiastically endorsed the Bishop's appointment.
, of course, is married to Pastor Mark.
She, like Mark, has been a United Methodist pastor for over 30 years, having served appointments in Illinois, Nebraska, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Pastor Margaret's conference responsibilities have included membership on the Board of Pensions, COSROW, Committee on the Episcopacy, Board of Ordained Ministry
, and President of the Council on Finance and Administration
Pastors Mark and Margaret
have served together approximately half of their careers and share great expectations of what can be accomplished together at South.
They will approach their ministries at the church as a team, sharing in pastoral and administrative duties, each with designated responsibilities.
As their professional and personal styles, gifts and graces are very different one from the other, neither is in danger of being confused with their spouse!
Please keep Margaret
and Mark, Krista and Gary in your prayers during this time of transition.
