Statement of the Fall River Diocese with Regard to St. Lawrence Parish and Radoslaw Czerkawski [cached]

Father Marek Chmurski, Pastor of St. Lawrence Martyr Parish,

Bishop Coleman had increasing concerns about Father Chmurski's ministry as pastor there after hearing from many parishioners for over a year.
Father Chmurski had provided no information to the Diocese about either matter until the Diocese learned about them from others.
It is a violation of Fall River Diocesan policy to have a non-cleric residing at a rectory without permission, and, if it is a cleric, he must have a letter of suitability from his diocese or religious order. While Father Chmurski claims to have acquired permission, this is not true.
In a meeting with Bishop Coleman on these matters in September 2012, Father Chmurski denied that anyone had been residing at the rectory.
The Diocese received a copy of the police report on the theft which refutes some of Father Chmurski's statements to the bishop. According to the report, Father Chmurski explained to police that a man who expressed an interest in being a priest had been living at the rectory for four months and that he is believed to have taken $6,700 from the parish checking account by stealing parish checks kept in an unlocked cabinet and utilizing a stamp with the pastor's signature to sign them.
The Diocese is uncertain of the connection between Father Chmurski and Mr. Czerkawski.
The decision by Father Chmurski to allow Mr. Czerkawski to reside at the rectory in violation of diocesan rules and his subsequent denial of it as well as his lack of notification of the stolen parish funds to the Diocese were among the many troubling aspects of his pastoral administration of St. Lawrence Parish.
