He started his career in Silicon Valley performing database research at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories that resulted in the TimesTen technology later acquired by Oracle. The workshop was well attended and not only did Marcos impart valuable nuggets of information, our well-heeled audience also participated in a spirited and lively discussion during the Q&A where he addressed the audience's questions. He roundly stated, "bad ideas are the best ideas, because if it's a good idea then somebody in a big company would have gotten it funded."
We also got to hear first-hand from Founders Institute (@Founding) graduates who shared what the program had taught them, the opportunities they experienced such as going to New York to pitch their ideas to potential founders. The Founder Institute is the world's largest startup accelerator, with a mission to "Globalize Silicon Valley" and help founders build enduring technology companies.
So many innovative ideas and concepts were shared throughout the evening. Marcos, then introduced the importance of protecting a newly hatched business model or idea. He played the role of "Proprietary Idea Protection Officer" and introduced us to the concept of a "Friend NDA" during the 60 second pitch breakout session, which was appreciated and honored by the audience.
In closing, Marcos shared "Tonight we covered what it means to change the world, there's a new World that can be created. Just use your imagination."
Stay tuned for more information about a #StartUpIdeas online event with Marcos Polanco in the coming weeks where we will continue the dialogue around: What are the components of a great idea?
