Marcia Lain Herring, 57, is recognized for her bold, brilliant compositions. Brimming with vigor and exuberance, her colorful, viewer-friendly canvases have stirred interest in collectors worldwide. In December 1999 the Winter Park artist began selling on Sotheby's online auctions, which have since ended. Herring's auction sales record has placed her among the most successful emerging fine artists in today's market. She is a listed fine artist in the prestigious Mayer 2000/01 International Auction Records. Born 1952 in Canton, N.Y., Herring has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Energetic and versatile, working in several mediums, she is best-known as a colorist. Her strong sense of the luminous captivates the viewer. Starting with only the finest gallery-wrapped canvas, on custom built stretchers and often armed with only a palette knife, she creates thick, rich three-dimensional perspectives of nature and fantasy compositions. Other techniques often incorporate shaping and layering molding paste and rice paper, which is then bathed in brilliant glazes of transparent color. Painting outdoors in the many gardens and parks near her home has allowed her to more fully sense the influences of ever-changing light and nature.
Herring was the featured fine artist at Orlando Museum of Art January 2002. Her works hang in universities, corporate offices and residences of her many private collectors. Her Scandinavian collectors include the Swedish consulates to Spain and Venezuela. Her education began at a young age, as her mother was an artist as well. She won numerous awards throughout school and then majored in art at Brevard Art & Music College in North Carolina and the University of South Carolina. She also participated in several understudy relationships with artists across the country.
