said that the dialogue will focus on the Mining Exploration Project of Royalco Philippines where in a permit has already been issued despite the protest of the Indigenous People's Organization
(IPO) of barangay Gambang.
The protest of the IPO
is pending with the National Commission on Indigenous People Central Office
and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau
- Cordillera regional office, the mayor said.
"My constituents in this barangay would like the MGB
and the NCIP to explain why despite the pending protest a permit was already issued," Contada
Furthermore, this is the proper venue to address issues and concerns affecting the indigenous peoples of the barangay in order to iron out matters that would prevent the occurrence of any untoward circumstances between the proponents and the residents, Contada
explained that the dialogue will also get the ideas of the people whether they are willing to continue with the Royalco exploration or put an end to this.
According to Contada
intends to explore at least 5,400 hectares of supposedly mineral-rich areas in Bakun, Kibungan and Mankayan, Benguet in preparation for the opening of a large-scale mining operation.
