Marc is an all-action hard working and versatile footballer who has arrived at City with a reputation built at Cirncester Town where he has proven himself to be an energetic midfielder with the happy knack of making late runs and scoring important goals. Although at his happiest in the centre of a team Richards has plenty of experience playing at either central defence of full-back, and that versatility will make him an important addition to a small squad. His signing will also introduce fierce competition for places in the City starting XI and keep every player on their toes.
Marc signed for City in March 2007 having decided to leave Cirencester Town after a bust-up over a fixture clash which forced him to choose between a club fixture and a fixture for Hartpury Colleage where the player works. City have a good relationship with the college with several other first team players already linked to Hartpury with the club also often using their training facilities. It must have been a disappointing end to a four year spell with the Cotswold side who are facing a battle against relegation this season and where Richards had been one of few players to retain his form, scoring nine goals from midfield in a struggling side. Richards had been vice-captain at Ciren and had played a key role in helping the club to promotion to the Southern League Premier in 2004-05. Marc began his career as a youth player with Ch#!tenham Town and started his non-league career with Cinderford Town, having short spells with Weston and Supermarine before moving to Corinium Park in 2003.

Stoke-on-Trent employment tribunal heard Richards wrote his name in dirt on her car, followed her to the bank and contacted her by phone, text and social media.

She also claimed the player, who has a long-term girlfriend and three children, also visited her at home on her day off after persuading her to give him her address.

Richards, who now plays for Northampton Town and lives with his partner of 12 years, Melanie Gaye, 31, and their three children, was unavailable to comment.

Northampton Town signed Chesterfield striker Marc Richards on a 3 year contract in May 2014 after he rejected the offer of a new deal with the recently promoted Spireites. The Wolverhampton-born striker started his career with Blackburn Rovers from where he had loan spells at Crewe, Oldham, Halifax and Swansea. A switch to Sixfields in 2003 saw him score four goals in one game at Macclesfield as he played a major part in the run to the 2004 play offs. He then moved on to Barnsley and helped the Oakwell side to promotion to the Championship via the play-offs in his second season before he moved to Port Vale in 2007. Richards was the top scorer for Vale for five seasons. He was also the top scorer for Chesterfield in 2012/13 with a dozen goals in an injury punctuated season and added a further 8 goals as Chesterfield were promoted in 2013/14. He scored 18 goals in his first campaign back at Sixfields and was voted Player of the Season.
