Marc C. Mathis, Executive Director, firstname.lastname@example.org
Marc C. Mathis
is a seasoned businessman who draws on the lessons and experience he
gained through a successful career in management, venture capital, and as an entrepreneur.
His passion for entrepreneurship manifested over 18 years ago as an undergraduate student at Norfolk State University where he developed his first business plan and became an advocate for the development of minority entrepreneurs.
Thus began his journey to become a successful minority business owner.
While pursuing his
entrepreneurial goals, Marc
skills as a Manager with Foot Locker, Inc.
gained 10 years of valuable management experience and insight.
In this position he
established many key business relationships and gained extensive knowledge in lifestyle branding and urban marketing.
applied this knowledge to a start-up endeavor which he
co-founded called Rimmax Wheels, a custom wheels manufacturing company which immediately gained national attention due to the company's innovative product lines; specifically innovating and producing the first "Spinner" wheels for motorcycles in industry history.
The company was featured in major publications such as King Magazine
, Cycle Dreams
, Cycle World Magazine
and Vibe Magazine
which named the company's spinner wheels number 6 out of the 10 hottest products of 2003.
was also featured in Ebony Magazine
personal accomplishments as well.
Marc served as Rimmax's Co-CEO and COO and was directly responsible for all operational aspects of the business including, contract negotiations, production, marketing and distribution.
He is also the co-inventor of the patented technology Free Spinning Rims for Motorcycles, and is the co-owner of 3 U. S. design patents and 1 utility patent.
After successfully founding this endeavor, in 2005 he
then entered the world of venture capital, where he
met Mr. David J. Freschman, Managing Principal for Innovation Capital Advisors, LLC (ICA), Innovation Ventures, L.P. (IV), Delaware Innovation Fund (DIF), and Founder of Early Stage East (ESE).
Mr. Freschman immediately took a liking to Marc
because of his drive, passion for entrepreneurship, and extensive knowledge in the world of hip-hop branding and urban ventures, an industry in which Mr. Freschman was intrigued and also interested in gaining more insight.
6 year tenure with ESE
identified that there was a void between Minority Business Enterprises
(MBE) and the venture community.
Determined to address this issue, he established Mataron Development, LLC, a Wilmington, DE based development firm which primary acts as a "venture catalyst" to minority entrepreneurs by providing access to sources of venture capital funding through strategic partnerships and business development.
Through this endeavor Marc
has been able to successfully bridge the gap
with consultation, mentoring, and education to the venture world.
Marc graduated with his B.S. in Business Management with emphasis in Entrepreneurship from Norfolk State University.
He has an MBA from Wilmington University and currently he is pursuing his Doctoral Degree in Business Management Sciences at the University Of Maryland University College, where his dissertation research focuses on strategies for MBEs to successfully access venture capital funding.
