Marc Gonzalez, Pharm.D, earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California, School Of Pharmacy.
Dr. Gonzalez is currently the lead instructor for the Department of Defense's Regional Counter Drug, Mid-west Counter Drug, Midwest Counterdrug and Western Counterdrug Training Academies at their resident military bases throughout the country. Dr. Gonzalez is currently an instructor for the California Narcotic Officers' Association and the International Chiefs' of Police - Drug Recognition Experts. Dr. Gonzalez developed the original section on "Medical and Psychological Rule-outs" for the IACP-DRE. Dr. Gonzalez is part of the core course for DRE with the California Highway Patrol, Impair Driver Unit's "Pre-School" and the Los Angeles Police Department's "Re-Certification" DRE School. He has re-certified DRE's throughout the country. Marc Gonzalez, a former longtime supervising investigator with the Medical Board of California, now serves as the director of corporate security for Purdue Pharma.
He also acts as an educational liaison, training members of law enforcement and prescribers on how to combat drug problems in their communities. This morning, he will lead an in-service police training hosted by San Ramon police, to which a number of Bay Area departments have been invited. It will focus on methods for investigating prescription drug abuse, fraud, trafficking and other issues."Most law enforcement officers see a prescription bottle and say, 'Oh, that's OK,' " Gonzalez said.

Marc Gonzalez is a retired law enforcement officer.This program will help pharmacy personnel evaluate the circumstances that surround the trends, patterns, and risk factors associated with pharmacy crime.The participant will learn techniques to address and deter diversion, robberies and burglaries.The participant will be better able to describe barriers to the ability of law enforcement personnel to coordinate investigations of pharmacy crime in overlapping jurisdictions.Upon completion of this course of instruction the health care professional should be able to identify at least three steps pharmacists can take to decrease the opportunity for being a victim of pharmacy crime as well as to proactively prevent loss.The participant will better understand the problems surrounding misuse, abuse and diversion of pharmaceutical drugs.Dr Gonzalez will provide a national overview of the abuse of prescription drugs (DAWN and NSDUH), an understanding of the CSA as it applies to prescription controlled substances and a description of prescription drug crimes and their victims.
