Ennis School Board to interview three superintendent finalists | The Madisonian, 11 Feb 2012 [cached]
Of the five finalists, three agreed to do an interview, said Marc Glines, chairman of the Ennis School Board.
Applications for the position came from around the country and included two from outside the United States, Glines said.
"That was kind of impressive to tell you the truth," he said.
The idea is to not only get to know the candidates, but allow them to get to know the people of Ennis, Glines said.
Hiring a new superintendent is not only about finding the best candidate for the job, but someone who loves Ennis, he said.
"We're trying to get a potential superintendent comfortable with Ennis also," Glines said.
And though it may seem like the process is happening fast, it's important to work quickly because the candidate pool for superintendents is getting thinner every day, Glines said.
Initially, the school board picked five finalists, but at least one of them had already committed somewhere else, he said.

"The school board association is trying to involve the public as much as possible and that was the school board's goal," Glines said.
Board votes on fund transfer, discusses TRS findings at special meeting | The Madisonian, 11 Feb 2012 [cached]
The board took almost two months to determine how to deal with the excess general fund money, which was intentional, said Marc Glines, chairman of the Ennis School Board.
"We as a board are being very conscientious about every move we make," Glines said. "We want to ensure that the public knows every step we're taking."
The school district is fortunate to have excess general funds to deal with, he said.
"We're very fortunate indeed," Glines said.
The school board's attorney Elizabeth Kaleva was at the meeting to discuss the findings, said school board chairman Marc Glines.
Glines declined to comment as well, but did say Kaleva was preparing a response on the board's behalf.
