Malte Astrom, Big Game Fisherman, World Record Holder, Member of the IGFA World Record Fishing Team, Scandinavian Tuna Club, British Conger Club and Gothenburg Sea Angling Club.
Mr Astrom was born in 1940 in a village north of Sundsvall, Sweden.He started his fishing career as a youngster fishing for salmon and trout in the rich streams of a nearby river named Indalsalven.
He later moved by to the southern part of of Sweden and began to fish the ocean grounds of Scandinavia, England, Ireland and other nearby countries.He pioneered the so called "caravan fishing" in Sweden, which involved a fleet of small recreational fishing boats exploring the rich ocean waters of Norway.
The last 30 years Mr Astrom has been fishing mainly after pelagic species in Australia, Mexico, Azores, Mauritius and other countries.He has been very successful as proved by the average weight of his 10 biggest caught big game fish, an astonishing 963 lb/437 kg.Included are a great white shark weighing 1946 lb/883 kg, a black marlin weighing 1086 lb/493 kg and several marlin over 800 lb/363 kg.
Mr Astrom was nominated "Deep sea angler of the year" in Sweden in 1989 and 1990.He has won the prestigious Scandinavian Tuna Cup in 1990, 1995, 1996 and 1997.
