"ConAgra chose WWT, not because we were a diverse partner, but because we had the expertise and the strengths ConAgra was looking for to help them take their data center to the next generation," Goodwin says.
Though its name reflects an ambitious vision of international influence, Goodwin says World Wide Technology started out in 1990 with five employees and 4,000 square feet of office space.
Now boasting 2,300-plus employees, WWT posted more than $5 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2012, according to Goodwin. It's one of the largest African American-owned companies in the U.S.
"We are truly worldwide now," Goodwin says. "We support customers not only here in the United States, but also in places like Shanghai, Singapore, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the EU."
Before joining the staff, Goodwin spent three years doing diversity consulting work for WWT through his own Des Moines, Iowa-based business.
Because its initial focus was on government contracts, WWT secured federal 8(a) certification. Later, the firm was certified by NMSDC and formed alliances with nearly all of that organization's regional councils. WWT has maintained its certified MBE status with NMSDC.
"We graduated from the 8(a) program early because, quite frankly, we outgrew the program, in both revenue and number of employees," Goodwin says.
Diversity spending through the program has grown from $39 million with fifty-four suppliers in 2010 to $121 million with 206 suppliers in 2012, according to Goodwin.
"We are big believers in paying it forward," Goodwin says.
"Angela is one of the more engaged and involved diversity managers I've worked with," Goodwin says.

As an elementary-school aged entrepreneur who spent snowy days shoveling sidewalks, Malcolm Goodwin's entrepreneurial spirit only grew with time. The now-38-year-old just didn't know how or when it would surface.
Malcome Goodwin At age 33 the spirit exploded and set Goodwin on a path to personal and professional success. He is now president and CEO of Promise IT Solutions, an information technology consulting firm he founded in 2007. He is also president of his newest company, Global Search, a pre-employment screening services firm that is listed among the Fortune 1,000 companies.
"I knew somehow my place was going to be in business ownership," Goodwin says. "But the challenge for any entrepreneur is finding the right time. There's never a right time, and it's always a risk."
Goodwin decided to take the risk in 2003 when he left his position as an assistant vice president in client relations for Marsh & McLennan Company Inc. During his two-year hiatus while pondering his next entrepreneurial move he directed his efforts toward volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Goodwin, who admits he's "easily bored," is a former board president for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa-he was the first African American to hold the position. "Given the demographics the organization serves, I couldn't believe I was the first African American for the job," says Goodwin.
While the multi-business owner admits he was an entrepreneurial novice when he started Benefits Communications Group, he believes the experience laid the groundwork for his current professional success. Today Goodwin says his business model relies on the principles of maintaining low overhead and building business partnerships to grow his companies.
And while current economic conditions have impacted Goodwin's businesses, he is optimistic about the future growth of information technology. In fact, an economic development study commissioned on behalf of the Iowa Department of Economic Development identified information solutions as one of three key industries important to the state's growth.
First and foremost Goodwin says he wants to contribute to his community-whether it's helping to match companies and employees or finding mentors for area youth.
