Beaufort School head teacher Malcolm Bride confirmed during the public meeting last week that this project was being considered."It would be a massive income generator," said Bride."We would be looking to have five-a-side football along with other sports."Sport England's South West development officer Nick Lockwood told Bride on Monday it is unlikely there would be financial aid for the sports centre from the governing body during a visit on Monday."What they are able to do for us is to give us technical assistance," said Bride.

Malcolm BridePicture of Mr Malcolm BrideMr Malcolm Bride Teaching Awards 2006 Winner In the last nine years Malcolm has led Beaufort Community School to greater and greater achievement. He has a huge belief in comprehensive education and, every day, works passionately to realise the vision of a genuine co-educational school where all pupils succeed and are proud to do so.Under his leadership his school of more than 1,200 students has gone from strength to strength.Examination results are improving rapidly and it is now among the most oversubscribed schools within its local education authority.A string of accolades has been collected along the way - School Achievement, Sportsmark, Artsmark Silver, Investors in People, Careers Award and the BSA Quality Mark.Last year, on the school's first attempt, it was granted specialist status for technology.Governors are in no question that Malcolm's appointment was the best decision they ever made.It is a view wholeheartedly endorsed by the school staff, a tremendously supportive team of more than 150, who admire Malcolm for his fairness, openness and outstanding leadership.Everybody commented that he listens, responds and respects them.Malcolm is generous with his knowledge and time too, working extensively to build links within the community and share his skills with peers in his local authorityParents, pupils and staff have an immense faith in his making things happen - and Malcolm doesn't disappoint.Of course he has his failings - staff told Teaching Awards that the main two were pretty important - supporting Crystal Palace and a fondness for chocolate.Overlooking these two human frailties, Malcolm exemplifies the perfect headteacher - a total commitment to his school's development, enormous energy, a refusal to be complacent or settle for second best, an unshakeable faith in the value of education and the ability to lead a team with inspiration and fairness. Well done Malcolm - it's good to know that your quaalities are widely appreciated.Congratulations, Malcolm!
