Maggie Claud, a member of the State Real Estate Commission, was crowned Queen of Ms. Senior Connecticut pageant.The ceremonies took place on April 19 at Asnuntuck Community and Technical College.Claud will reign for the year of 2002 as Mrs. Senior Connecticut. Contestants were required to be over 60 years old.The purpose of the contest is to give women of 60 years and older an opportunity to display their beauty within and display their talents.The pageant seeks to draw attention to the achievement of senior women and to motivate and encourage women to develop their full potential and share a positive outlook on life with others. Claud has five children, three step-children, 23 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.She says that rather than purchase gifts for all the children at Christmas she wisely sends their moms a check. Claud, a long time Hartford resident retired from the state Department of Housing in 1995 after 12 and a half years of service.She has been very active in community service and civic organizations and has won many awards and honors for her efforts.She served on the Hartford Board of Education from 1971 to 1975.Claud keeps very busy volunteering for the Episcopal Church Diocesan Jubilee Office since here retirement. Claud earned her bachelor's degree in 1981 from Upper Iowa University, and a master's degree from Hartford Polytechnic Institute in 1993.She is presently in a Third Age Initiative, Leadership Greater Hartford Class.She never stops learning. There was a talent component to the competition and Claud took that opportunity to read Rudyard Kipling's poem titled, "If." Claud also was voted Ms. Congeniality by her fellow competitors.She took home a dozen long stemmed red roses, $500, a gold watch and a cameo pin.The pin designates her as a new member of the Cameo Club of past contestants. Claud will represent Connecticut in the National Competition taking place in Dubuque, Iowa, Sept. 10 through 15.The leadership of CAR wishes her Godspeed in her quest for the national title.
