Coach Madinda Ndlovu under pressure in Botswana football league
It is not raining but pouring at Township Rollers where fans have accused coach Madinda Ndlovu of failing the team.At halftime during the 1-1 draw with minnows Naughty Boys in the Mascom Premier League on Saturday, some fans believed that it is time the Zimbabwean coach is shown the door.
They have become impatient and vowed that very soon, they will take the law in their hands if the management does not act against Ndlovu.
But Ndlovu has responded saying that those who are calling for his expulsion are not fair.He told Monitor Sport in a post-match interview that the team is crippled hence they are failing to convert the chances they create.Ndlovu asserted that injuries have hit the team this season and contributed to the failure to get results."If you look at Rollers this season, they've failed to win two games consecutively because of injuries.
What they don't realise is that when they won the league and Coca-Cola Cup, they were from the First Division.Good, what they do not realise is that the team has not had enough rest since then," he said.Ndlovu added that the reason Rollers played better in the CAF Confederation Cup recently is that there was a lot of excitement from the players.
The former Zimbabwean junior team coach told Monitor Sport that he is not here to stay and if fans feel that he is failing, they should follow the right channels and ask the management to relieve him of his duties."If they do so, I'll respect them and would not give them any problems. But I would like to see Rollers winning the league with the same material next season. If they fail, I would take them to court and ask to be compensated," said Ndlovu.
Against Naughty Boys on Saturday, Rollers never came near their best.Missing seven of their key players, Mapalastina struggled the whole 90 minutes.Only Phenyo Mongala was a threat but at times, he wasted possession when he could have simply passed the ball.
Gutu repaid the faith shown in ..., 1 June 2006 [cached]
Gutu repaid the faith shown in him by coach Madinda Ndlovu with a 70th minute winner as the Warriors finally turned their dominance of a game into victory.
Madinda, who had hinted on handing Under-23 striker Simba Sithole his Warriors debut however, later opted to pack his midfield and use veteran Maroto as a lone striker with the quintet of Brian Mapfumo, Eric Mudzingwa, Denver Mukamba, Joel Ngodzo and Gutu operating in the midfield department.
Madinda then made a tactical change in the 64th minute and brought in steely defender Daniel Veremu for Ngodzo and pushed right back Gilbert Mapemba into a more attacking role on the flank.
Madinda, relieved to see his charges bouncing back into the reckoning, paid tribute to captain Arubi and his troops for the victory.
I also noticed that Ghana thrive on wing play and that is why I congested the midfield and later brought on Veremu," Madinda said.
