"When the Worldwide Service Project came along, I got the idea that the STAR Foundation might be willing to support it," says Mac Shivers, a member of the Wilton Kiwanis club and secretary for the STAR Foundation."The organization works to support mentally retarded people. But if STAR could do something to prevent retardation, that's even better."
"I put my Kiwanis hat on," says Mac
, "and Bill put together a fine application for a grant."
At first, the Kiwanians were going to ask for a $500 or $1,000 contribution, but then they decided to ask for more-$25,000.

chose to make its contribution in honor of Kiwanian-and longtime STAR supporter: Mac Shivers
