Captain Benck has served the Gainesville Police Department since 1988, and was promoted to Captain on February 23, 2004. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Florida. Recently, Captain Benck has participated in the 2008 National Law Enforcement Leadership Institute on Violence Against Women, the 2007 DEA-sponsored 80 hour Drug Unit Commander Academy in Quantico, VA, the 2007 Officer Conduct and Internal Affairs for Supervisors and Managers and the 2006 Internet Crimes Against Children Unit Supervisor Seminar.
She serves on the Steering Committee for the Florida Department of Health and the Statewide Initiative to Prevent Sexual Violence. She is also a member of the Board of Advisors for the House of Hope for Women and the Board of the Child Advocacy Center Multidisciplinary Team.
Captain Benck acted as the lead for the Gainesville Police Department's effort to create and enforce a City Ordinance addressing where sex offenders and predators who target children can live. From 2000 to 2003, she served as the co-host of GPD's television show, Police Beat. In 2001, Captain Benck was the recipient of the Martha V. Varnes Award for Achievements in Sexual Exploitation Prevention. In addition, she drafted the current department policy and procedure for handling domestic violence cases.

Captain Lynne Benck is the Commander of the Investigations Bureau, which includes Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Forensic Crime Unit (FCU), and the Special Investigations Division (SID) which focuses on narcotics violations. Within CID, there are a number of specialty units, including the Victim Advocate Unit. Captain Benck began her law enforcement career at the Gainesville Police Department in 1987. She has spent the majority of her career in Operations and Criminal Investigations. She also served as the Personnel Commander for three years while at the rank of Lieutenant. Captain Benck is a 1987 graduate of the University of Florida. More recently, she attended the prestigious DEA- sponsored Drug Unit Commander Academy in Quantico, Virginia as well as the International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership Institute on Violence Against Women. In addition to her official duties, Captain Benck serves as a Steering Committee Member for the Florida Department of Health's statewide initiative to prevent sexual violence, she serves on the Board of Advisors for the House of Hope for Women, and serves on the CORE Group for the Child Advocacy Center Multi-disciplinary Team. Captain Benck led the charge to get the current City Ordinance passed that places restrictions on where registered sex offenders can live in Gainesville. Captain Benck served as the co-host of "Police Beat", GPD's national award-winning television show.
