LYN GODLEY - CLASS OF 1974
...
LYN GODLEY - Lyn Godley is a 1974 graduate of Vermilion High School. In VHS, Lyn was a member of Student Council and Ski Club. She received her Bachelors in Fine Arts from OSU in 1978 and Masters in Fine Arts from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980. Lyn always believed the work of art is consuming - her free time was spent in the pursuit of the passion of art. Lyn's design work has crossed the borders of interiors, product, furniture, lightning, and jewelry. Her furniture and lighting, both individually and as a partner with the late Lloyd Schwan in the design firm Godley-Schwan (1984-1998) has been exhibited at the ICFF in NYC as well as the Salone de Mobili in Italy. In 1990 Lyn Godley organized the "Furniture NY" group in order to promote American design abroad and serve as a networking resource for New York based designers. She assisted the group in securing funds to study the competitiveness of American design firms, as well as funding for the group to exhibit in Milan and Cologne. In 1990 Lyn Godley and her company were nominated for the NY State Governor's Award for Achievement in Exporting. Her work has won awards for Excellence in Design in 1988, 1989, and again in 1995 at the New York Gift Fair. In 1998 the Crinkle Lamb, designed by Godley+Schwan was accepted into the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art. Her work is also in the collections of the Museum of Art & Design (formerly the American Craft Museum), and the Denver Art Museum. In 1999 Godley was nominated for the Young Designer of the Year Award by the Brooklyn Museum of Art. In 2003 she was commissioned by the Jewish Museum in New York City to produce an 81-lamp menorah for the museum's centennial celebration. A retrospective of the work of Lyn Godley and Lloyd Schwan opened in the fall of 2004 at The Design Center in Philadelphia.
