FIGC Commissioner Luca Pancalli has confirmed the Serie A and B fixtures will resume this weekend.
I think it would be a mistake not to begin again, he said after the Government passed new laws clamping down on football-related violence. But the Lega Calcio held an informal assembly on Tuesday and decided to approve the proposal of playing next weekend, even if FIGC commissioner Luca Pancalli will need to ratify the decision after a special cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Italian Football Federation commissioner Luca Pancalli will decide on Wednesday whether Serie A will resume this weekend. Pancalli suspended all football in the country after rioting Catania fans caused the death of a 38-year-old police officer. Pancalli took the decision to bring a halt to games in the peninsula on Friday night and hes certain he made the right choice. I said on Friday that I wouldnt okay a restart without the activation and presence of serious and drastic measures which would allow games to be played in calm and safe surroundings, he added. Following the riots in Catania on Friday evening, which resulted in the death of 38-year-old Chief Inspector Filippo Raciti, FIGC Commissioner Luca Pancalli ordered the immediate suspension of all football activity in Italy until further notice. FIGC President Luca Pancalli made the announcement this evening. Enough is enough, continued Pancalli. I cannot find the words to describe a 38-year-old man who lost his life in such a way.

"Any big football event supported by grassroots initiatives - especially when children are involved - can bring a lasting legacy as it allows us to show that football is not only played on the biggest stages," says Luca Pancalli, head of the youth and schools sector at the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
