Lt Col RICKMAN was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1968 and joined the JDF in 1990 after pursuing studies in Construction Engineering and Management at the College of Arts, Science and Technology in Kingston, Jamaica.
After successfully completing the Officer Selection Board he did his initial officer training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst in the United Kingdom and was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant in the JDF and served as a Platoon Commander initially in the Second Battalion the Jamaica Regiment (2JR) , and then in the First Battalion (1JR).
In 1993 he was posted to the recently formed 1 Engineer Regiment (JDF) where he served as a Troop Commander.
primary duties included the management of construction projects being undertaken by the Engineer Regiment
for the JDF
and for the country.
In 1994 he
completed the Royal Engineers Troop Commanders Course at the Royal School of Military Engineering
in the United Kingdom.
was given the added responsibility for Combat Engineering for the JDF and later appointed as the Officer Commanding 2 Field Squadron, 1 Engineer Regiment
During this period, he
was also given the responsibilities of Disaster Preparedness and Response Officer for the JDF
In 1998, he
led a deployment of a troop of Construction Engineers to Montserrat after the eruption of the Soufrière Hills Volcano which destroyed the capital city in that country, to construct new homes for displaced persons.
Lt Col RICKMAN
completed the Caribbean Junior Command and Staff Course (CJCSC) in 1996 and was appointed the Officer Commanding 4 Support Squadron and later as the Operations Officer for the Engineer Regiment
In 2005 he became the first member of the JDF to complete the Army Command and Staff Course in Nanjing, China and upon his return he served as an Instructor on CJCSC in 2006.

Lt Col RICKMAN served at the Headquarters, Jamaica Defence Force as the acting SO1 J5 in 2010 with responsibility for Strategy, Planning, Policy and Transformation in the JDF and in 2011 he was appointed the Second In Command, 1 Engineer Regiment (JDF).
He was awarded the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service in 2010 and he holds a Master of Science Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the University of the West Indies.
He is currently also a member of the Board responsible for the development of the Strategic Defence Review 2012 for the JDF.
Lt Col Rickman is a past student of the Kingston Technical High School and is married to Suzette and has two children.
