Throughout that time, Solano has been an invaluable and supportive resource for poets and poetry readers alike, holding book signings, running a reading series, and administering the Grolier Poetry Prize. The Grolier, of course, has become an institution in itself. The small, one-room shop is the only all-poetry bookstore in North America. Too often, when people speak of contributions to the country's literary heritage, they point only to writers, critics, and publishers. But Louisa Solano, as a bookseller, has been singularly generous and influential in her quest to sustain the importance of poetry.
