Loudon F. Owen - Advisor
Loudon F. Owen is a practicing lawyer, and is Managing Partner and co-founder of McLean Watson Capital Inc.
is one of Canada's pre-eminent venture capital firms with offices in Toronto and Singapore.
Prior to establishing McLean Watson Capital, Loudon and his partner financed and advised Softimage, a world leader in high-end 3D animation, in its growth from 4 to 250 employees, its IPO on Nasdaq in 1992 and the sale to Microsoft in 1994.
Loudon was involved from its early days, first as an investor and director, then serving as the Joint Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Softimage from 1993 to the time of its sale.
Loudon currently serves on the Boards of Directors of i4i (Chairman), Vismand Exploration (Chairman), Amplus Communication, Ntegrator International (listed on Singapore Stock Exchange), Quantec Geoscience (Chairman), HDX - Hosted Data Transaction Solutions Inc. (TSX - Chairman) and Hanfeng Evergreen Inc (TSX - Chairman).
As Chairman of i4i, he
was personally responsible for launching, championing and raising the capital for i4i to enforce its patent against Microsoft
This resulted in the largest patent award ever affirmed by the Court of Appeals.
The case was further appealed by Microsoft
at the US Supreme Court
where a unanimous decision in favour of i4i was handed down on June 10, 2011.
Loudon has extensive public and private company Board experience, and performs various pro bono Board and trustee work, including Chairman of the Canadian INSEAD Alumni Association, 6 years as a member of the Board of Governors of Upper Canada College, previously Chairman of the Commercial Developments Committee - Mount Sinai Hospital (Toronto), and previously a director of the Empire Club of Canada and Alliance Française de Toronto.
In addition, he has previously served on the Boards of a range of public companies, including BPI Mutual Funds, Brookfield/BF Realty and Softimage.
Loudon is a Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs Toronto Chapter.
Loudon has a legal background and was the Managing Partner at Burgess Macdoanld Martin & Younger.
Prior to that, he
also practised law at Campbell, Godfrey & Lewtas
(now part of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin).
He holds BA in International Relations & Economics (Trinity College, University of Toronto), an LLB (Osgoode Hall Law School), and an MBA (Insead, France).
