Lou has been a teacher of Social Studies in the Ardrossan Schools, Ardrossan, Alberta; an English Teacher in Skyline High School, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and an English Teacher in New Milford High School, New Milford, CT. She began teaching at Canterbury in 1981. Since then, she has taught English, headed the English Department, supervised the underform girls' dorm, served as Director of Studies for sixteen years and as Dean of Faculty. She is currently Academic Dean.
Lou participated in the Geraldine R. Dodge Fellowship for Secondary School Teachers, a National Endowment for Humanities Summer Seminar in Native American Literature, and was awarded a Klingenstein Fellowship in 1991. Her interests include reading, writing, the American West, and the Boston Red Sox. She would like more time for movies, hiking, and travel. Lou has had articles on Ernest Hemingway published in The Hemingway Review and in Montana: The Magazine of Western History.
