Reppucci wins dental award
05.25.12 Lorraine Reppucci was recently honored by the the Massachusetts Dental Society with the Ernest LeClaire Allied Educator of the Year Award on April 29. An ADAA member and Massachusetts Dental Assisting Association (MADAA) past president, Reppucci is a certified dental assistant with more than 30 years of experience in the field. "I'm so honored," Reppucci said. Reppucci is a first-year instructor of Dental Assisting at Shawsheen Technical High School in Billerica. She is active in student activities and is a test examiner and resource for the Massachusetts Department of Education for testing perspective dental assisting instructors. "In her first year, Lorraine has truly done an outstanding job," said Carissa Karakadeos, the Director of Community and Health Programs at Shawsheen. "I have known Lorraine for many years and I serve on the MDS ADHP Committee that nominated her for the Ernest LeClaire Award," Gauthier said. "Lorraine is a dedicated dental assistant and teacher. She has been a tireless volunteer with her state professional organization and currently serves as a Student Involvement Co-Chair. Lorraine is well deserving of the Ernest LeClaire Allied Dental Health Instructor Award. The fact that she was voted to receive it by her peers is a testament to her reputation as a dental assistant instructor." This isn't her first award in the field. Reppucci was also honored in 2007 with a similar award from the organization. After graduating from Reading High in 1978, Reppucci took classes in dental assisting at Northeast Regional High School in Wakefield. Shortly thereafter, Reppucci started a career as an assistant for a dentist in Reading that lasted 25 years. Eventually, Reppucci turned to teaching and started the dental assisting program at Nashoba Technical High School in Westford. She worked at Nashoba for 13 years before taking a job at Shawsheen Tech this year, where she is also starting a dental assisting program. "I have some former students out there working as hygienists and assistants," Reppucci said. "I love [teaching] and I have really enjoyed Shawsheen Tech. The students really enjoy the program and it is an outstanding facility. It's a great school." Reppucci is married to James Reppucci and is the mother of two adult children, Crystal and James, Jr.
